Election results visibility settings
One setting decides who can see results and when. Pick it in step 2 of the setup wizard, before you launch.
ElectionChamp has three election results visibility settings. No one hides results from everyone, including the administrator, until the election ends. Administrator lets the admin see results in real time while voting is open. After election ends shows results to the admin and to voters, through a link, once voting closes. You choose the setting in step 2 of the setup wizard, Security and settings.
The three results visibility settings
| Setting | Who can see results | When |
|---|---|---|
| No one | Nobody, not even the administrator | Until the election ends |
| Administrator | The administrator only | In real time |
| After election ends | The administrator and voters, through a link | After the election closes |
Ballots stay anonymous under every setting. Even with real-time access, an administrator sees totals, never how an individual voted. Read what admins can see for the full picture.
Which setting to choose
No one suits contested races, and any election where the person running it is close to a candidate. Nobody can watch the count move, so nobody can be accused of reacting to it.
Administrator suits elections where someone needs results the moment voting ends, such as a chair who announces them at a meeting. Tell members in your election notice that the administrator can see live totals.
After election ends suits most member elections. Voters can see the outcome themselves once voting closes, which saves follow-up emails. Every member gets the same view of the result at the same time.
How to set results visibility
- Start a new election and complete step 1, Election details.
- In step 2, Security and settings, choose No one, Administrator or After election ends under Result visibility.
- Finish the ballot, voter list and notification steps.
- In step 6, Review and launch, go through the review checklist and select Submit Election.
Decide before launch and say which setting you chose in your election notice. If you are unsure, After election ends is the simplest choice for most groups. Results are calculated automatically the moment voting closes; see automatic results.
Emailing a results link after close
Once the election closes, use Send election results to email every voter a secure link to the results page. Pair it with After election ends when you want members to see the outcome directly.
Example: a 240-member dance collective elects 3 committee members from 6 candidates, with After election ends selected. Voting closes on Friday evening with 171 ballots cast. Results are ready at once. The secretary uses Send election results that evening, and all 240 members get the link, including the 69 who did not vote.
At 240 voters, the election costs $12 (240 x $0.05). See pricing.
Under the Administrator setting, share results your own way, such as reading them at the meeting or sending the CSV. See export results to CSV.
